Product Description
Ernie, Gabby, Billy, Fergie, Cap and Hack, Rhino and Santo, Andre and Sammy, Wrigley, the ivy. Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance, tossing back opposing teams’ homers, the Billy Goat Curse, Bartman’s ball. Sixteen National League pennants, two World Series crowns, but … 95 years and counting.

Cubs Pride spans 129 years of Chicago Cubs ups, downs, and almosts. Extolled are the great legends, the lustrous lore, and the fabled futility of the Windy City’s favorite nine. It’s certain to work up a case of diamond fever for Cubs fans and baseball enthusiasts everywhere.

In 2003 the Cubs were just five outs away from their first World Series appearance since 1945, but the mysterious forces of fate intervened once again, and a late-game eight-run-rally by the Florida Marlins ended the dream. Such mishaps have made the Cubs America’s "favorite losers," according to Chicago TV station WGN, owned by the same company that owns the Cubs. The team’s perennial failings and underdog status have created a national following.

Cubs Pride provides firsthand accounts of the great Cubs players; the intense rivalries; the testaments to Cubs character; the great moments in Cub history; all 16 National League pennant-winning rosters; the all-time Cubs team; and even a shrine to No. 14, the immortal Ernie Banks. All are told by the players themselves, managers and coaches, Cubs’ opponents, and members of the media.

5 out of 5 stars Reading Cubs lore, the best way to salve the wounds of an opening day 16-5 defeat   April 7, 2010
Charles Ashbacher (Marion, Iowa United States(cashbacher@yahoo.com))
The Cubs got clobbered 16 to 5 on opening day and when that happens, the best medicine for the Cubs fan is to read some of the history of the team. Few people realize that the Cubs actually predate the formation of the National League; they are the longest running franchise in baseball. Therefore, the team has a great deal of history, and a lot of it is positive. Many hall-of-famers have donned the Cubs uniform and many colorful and unusual characters have played for the team, although not always for the better.
This book contains some of the best stories in the lengthy lore that is Cubs baseball. No one could forget the great team that they had in 1969, they should have won the pennant, as is mentioned several times, and that team is the most famous second-place team in the history of sports. If you are a Cubs fan, long suffering or new to the experience, then this is a book that you can't help but enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Cubs are the greatest losers of ALL time!   February 1, 2006

We don;t care about winning, we care about what happens between the foul lines. We are America's team. Except for the Yankees and Red Sox. We rule Chicago! Winning a World Series on the South Side just makes it more obvious that we do NOT care about winning records, we care about showing up for our team. We have the hottest girls, the best bars and ivy on our outfield walls. That makes us No. 1! I'm so sick of the stat-heads that keep bringing up 1908. Hey, wise guy, 1908 this! All the way to HiTops! We'll show them how baseball is done -- done the tequila way! We're hopeful for a great year next year of 3 million+ in the stands. Playoffs? Ah, whatever! We'll leave that to the materialistic teams in the MLB. The Cubs are about ahving a good time, not about winning. Sammy Sosa! come back!
